Music Monday: The Great Gatsby

This weekend XM was showcasing the soundtrack to the latest edition of The Great Gatsby on the silver screen. When you read this classic novel, or if you have seen previous incarnations, the music is evocative of the time the novel is set in, the hot summer of 1922. When you see Baz Lurhmann's version of the novel, it is risky and the music matches. Cole Porter and JZ haven't had too much in common until now.  The traditionalists have not been happy with the lack of classic jazz, but if you look at the film for its aesthetic, then it kind of fits in. Personally, I liked it and there are some songs that I really enjoyed.  Have you seen the film or heard its soundtrack?
Here is a list of the songs I like...
1. Back to Black by Beyonce and Andre 300
2. Bang Bang by Will.i.am
3. Young and Beautiful by Lana del Rey
4. Over the Love (of you) by Florence + The Machine

Hope you had a great weekend and I hope music makes your Monday lovely!

Thursday Threads: Going Gatsby

It seems like this happens every few years...the anticipation of one movie causes people to throw theme parties, designers to show off their film inspired wares and before we know it we've all cut our hair and have multiple beaded dresses hanging in our closets. This year it seems like we're all going ga-ga for Gatsby. Here are a few things you might want to wear next time you're on West Egg on your way to Gatsby's.
Kate Spade has this beautiful clutch which looks like you're carrying around great Scott's book is perfect! It's currently on sale too!

These Eddie flats by Tory Burch are perfect for a Gatsby gathering. They are fabulous...and did I mention they are on sale too?

Then you have Tiffany's who takes the cake. They have an entire collection inspired by the film and roaring 20's. The piece de resistance is this headband which can be yours for a mere $200,000...pennies really. It is stunning after all.

So happy shopping!

Art Talk Tuesday: A Special Gift

In 2004, I enrolled as a graduate student at Bank Street College of Education in New York City for a Masters of Science in Education in Leadership in Museum Education. Bank Street is known to be one of the finest training grounds for leaders in the field of education and museum education. While a grad student there were four advisors to our class, Leslie, the program director, Claudine, Laura and Bill. This year Bill is retiring and today we got an email from Laura asking us to send Bill postcards--- so I am going to paint this image onto a postcard. The mascot for Bank Street is the owl, so I thought an owl in a Bank Street shirt with the city behind it would be a perfect little piece for Bill.

Music Monday: Snow Patrol, The Lightning Strike

It's MONDAY! I don't know about you, but that was the fastest weekend. So what better day to listen to new music...! I first heard Snow Patrol's The Lightning Strike was last year, today was the first time I heard it on the radio. It's such a great song and is so melodic. There is even reference to this song in the Fifty Shades of Grey books! I highly recommend, especially it if you need something to unwind with at the end of the day with a big fat glass of wine.

Week-Ender 51-53

A few of my favorite pictures from the past few weeks. Museum visits, tennis playing, play dates, movies with friends and a little magazine cover...no big deal!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
