Thursday Threads: Sexy Flexy Frames

This week I had to go pick up a pair of glasses that were being made for me. While at the shop, I noticed a case with vibrantly colored frames. I asked about them and was told they were the best, they weigh next to nothing and are flexible to no risk of them breaking (insert 5 month old who likes to tear my glasses off my face). The legs are interchangeable so you aren't stuck with the same pair ever...and at $200 they are an easy YES! MUST HAVE!

I've found it hard to locate them online for buying, but some boutique frame shops seem to carry them. Here in Miami you can find them at Lopez Optica on Coral Way and 22. You can learn more about them on the company website though.

Sometimes Life Gets in the Way...Music Monday + Art Talk Tuesday

What can I say? I'm busy...but I need to always remind myself this is my outlet for ME. I need to give myself some me time...don't you all agree (for yourselves, of course). Life with a 5.5 month old and a 3.11 yr old is fast paced and when you add a layer of work and friends and volunteer commitments...it gets harder to find time for myself.

However, the only time I really get to be by myself is in the car. After the kids have been dropped off and on my way to pick them up I am afforded about 30-40 minutes to myself...so I listen to music.

Here's what I've been digging recently...

Rather Be by Clean Bandit
Shake it Off by Taylor Swift
On the subject of art, the video to Shake it Off is really funny. I'm glad to see what even though MTV no longer plays videos, the art of video music video making has not been lost. One of my favorite videos of all time is "Land of Confusion" by Genesis... remember it? With the puppets... watch it here. I also am a fan of the Bedtime Story video by Madonna. The BEST music video ever...is not a video, it's a movie, The Beatles Hard Days Night! It's genius, moving from comedic performances to thoughtful and witty music performances.

What are some of your favorites?

I am so excited about this Target collaboration! I am definitely going to be in line at 6:00am for this one...call me crazy.

Toms will give back (as they normally do) shoes for shoes and meals and blankets for apparel. The entire collection is also rumored to be under $50 a piece.

Music & Art on Tuesday: Cecilia the Satellite

Today I discovered new music. At first I could not believe what my ears were hearing and then there it was plain as white bread (that's a thing, right?) "Cecilia and the Satellite" by Andrew MaMahon. A really cool new tune with great album cover art... I want this on a shirt!

Thursday Threads: Boogie Board Sync 9.7

Today my "Threads" are threads of technology! Last weekend while finishing back-to-school shopping, I discovered the Boogie Board. It wasn't much, just a simple e-writer, so then I did more research. I found that the company also made on e-writer that syncs to your phone via Bluetooth... this meant I can email myself my notes, drawings. I can send them to friends or clients! This tool is revolutionizing things for me, and I have only been using it for less than 24 hours. If you are an active note taker or artist on the go--- this is a great product for you. The best part, it's only $80! Boogie Board Sync 9.7

Music Monday: Hallelujah...Thank You Robin

While I was on maternity leave my husband bought his dream guitar, a Les Paul. For the past couple of months our home has been filled with the sweet and rich tone of his Les Paul. Most people don't know this, but I love to sing. It's a secret talent of mine...but every now and then I let loose and belt out a tune in public. Since the Les Paul came into our house, Mr. D has been asking me to sing with him more...I hesitate...but last night we put together a "set list" of songs that I would feel comfortable singing with him.

As I was driving into work this morning Jeff Buckley serenaded me with his rendition of "Hallelujah" and as I sang along I made a mental note to email Mr. D with a request to add this song to the list. It seems appropriate and haunting now at 10:45pm, because later in the evening we would all slowly start to learn of the death of the great Robin Williams. He, like Jeff Buckley left us in shock with the news of his death. Robin Williams who made so many of us laugh was hiding his own demons. Jeff Buckley's passing was not intentional, but a tragic accident...yet I still remember being shocked by the news when it occurred.

So tonight I think about sweet and haunting melodies and the genius mind who made life sweet with laughter.

RIP Robin

I'm not trying to be camo heavy this fall... but I am in love with these pieces.

I also want to monogram some pieces this fall...like a jacket, a pair of jeans and a scarf. Here are some I found.
EBP Designs asks you to bring in your favorite jeans for a customization.

I'd just take any jacket in my closet to my local monogram shop.

Art Talk Tuesday: Azucar!

We've all heard that art imitates life and that music and art  influence each other. Tonight at my museum we are putting that all on display, through an exhibition called "American Sabor" brought to us by the Smithsonian, EMP, The Ford Motor Company Fund and the University of Washington. "American Sabor" looks at how Latin music has influenced the United States since about WWII, focusing on a number of cities as the epicenters of creation and influence. One of those cities featured is Miami.

Among the story-filled text panels, there is one panel that depicts the colorful and powerful artwork on albums. Once upon a time, Latin artists were commissioned by Latin musicians to create original artwork for their album covers. These vibrant covers lead me to think about one of the most colorful musician in the history of Latin music, Celia Cruz.

Celia is not only one of the artists featured, but being that we are in Miami, we also were able to borrow one of her technicolor dresses, a platinum album of hers and one of her sky high shoes. As you read and learn about these musicians, you can also listen to their rich creations and even dare to step on a dance floor and let the rhythm move you. I hope you will come out and enjoy "American Sabor" if you are in Miami. It will be on display through the end of October.

Music Monday: Love Never Felt So Good

This summer I've fallen in love with Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake all over again. The MJ single "Love Never Felt So Good" which includes vocals by JT  is a great song. I admit I have not heard the rest of the album, but this song just sounds like summer. It's fresh, it's fun and it makes me want to roll down my windows on the way to the beach. The other great thing... MJ and JT will always be trend setters, from one glove to thick frames and leather jackets on both. They are the kind of men who showcase the intersection of fashion and music.

When I saw this jacket on the Nordstroms website, I completely thought of this song. I've been thinking about getting a moto jacket for this fall, and this might just be the one.
Available at Nordstroms and on SALE! It's also available in pink! Go full on MJ and pair the grey with some black leather like leggings for the fall... or be a little more like JT and pair the pink one with a white T and ripped jeans.

Regardless of which one you go with, you'll look great. So turn up the music and enjoy!

Friday Fotos (Previously Week-Ender Series)

My break gave me a lot of time to think about this blog (it also gave me time to change diapers and nurse...but that's another story for another blog). I thought about what ties my Monday-Friday here together...and it's my love of art, music, fashion and design. The titles of each entry are just as important...so that is why I have renamed the "week-ender" into "Friday Fotos". Same premise, better name. I hope you will enjoy my personal favorites from my Instagram account this week.
