New York State of Mind

For almost 3 years, I called NYC my PT home. I would fly up once a month for about 4 days, go to grad school and enjoy the city. I love the city. Lucky for me, I get to back to the city in a few weeks for work and soak it all in again. In honor of that trip, here are two pages from my sketchbook.

There are those girls who like pink, others that are more in favor of purple... you have girls that are into unicorns, others who prefer kitties. This pair of sisters like all of the above and glitter... so a combination thereof is what they got from me at The Studio. 

The thing is... I was not a cat girl... I was not a purple girl... I was a pink and teddy bears kind of kid myself. My daughter is a purple cat lady... and when she saw "Ava" she reminded me how much she would like one of her own. "We'll see, C" is what I told her.

Family Portraits

I spent the weekend drumming up family portraits. Here is the one I did of my little family. These are the perfect gift for grads going off to college, for grads moving into their first apartment... for that late Mother's Day gift you forgot to buy and for anyone already thinking about father's day! Sketch-a-Day

I've been busy painting a few nights a week. It picked up speed when I got my new watercolor brush pens. They are great to work with and make clean up a breeze. Art Talk Tuesday: Hello 2015 !

Happy New Year! 

This year I really want to make sure I do a few things... 

1. Try to be as healthy as my husband

2. Get my home organized...I'll be 37 this month. I want to stop feeling like I live in  STY... 

3. Get back to basics... i.e. draw everyday. So here you go... 

These are my first two drawings/ paintings of the year. I had missed my sketchbook and watercolors. It felt so nice to give myself a few minutes. 

Juggling two kids, work, and everything else has been a challenge, but this is a great way to decompress and let it go (as my favorite 4 year old would say). So here's to 2015! I hope this year is the best one yet for all of us!

Thursday Threads: Sexy Flexy Frames

This week I had to go pick up a pair of glasses that were being made for me. While at the shop, I noticed a case with vibrantly colored frames. I asked about them and was told they were the best, they weigh next to nothing and are flexible to no risk of them breaking (insert 5 month old who likes to tear my glasses off my face). The legs are interchangeable so you aren't stuck with the same pair ever...and at $200 they are an easy YES! MUST HAVE! 

I've found it hard to locate them online for buying, but some boutique frame shops seem to carry them. Here in Miami you can find them at Lopez Optica on Coral Way and 22. You can learn more about them on the company website though.

Sometimes Life Gets in the Way...Music Monday + Art Talk Tuesday

What can I say? I'm busy...but I need to always remind myself this is my outlet for ME. I need to give myself some me time...don't you all agree (for yourselves, of course). Life with a 5.5 month old and a 3.11 yr old is fast paced and when you add a layer of work and friends and volunteer commitments...it gets harder to find time for myself.

However, the only time I really get to be by myself is in the car. After the kids have been dropped off and on my way to pick them up I am afforded about 30-40 minutes to myself...so I listen to music.

On the subject of art, the video to Shake it Off is really funny. I'm glad to see what even though MTV no longer plays videos, the art of video music video making has not been lost. One of my favorite videos of all time is "Land of Confusion" by Genesis... remember it? With the puppets... watch it here. I also am a fan of the Bedtime Story video by Madonna. The BEST music video ever...is not a video, it's a movie, The Beatles Hard Days Night! It's genius, moving from comedic performances to thoughtful and witty music performances.

Thursday Threads: Toms + Target

I am so excited about this Target collaboration! I am definitely going to be in line at 6:00am for this one...call me crazy.

Toms will give back (as they normally do) shoes for shoes and meals and blankets for apparel. The entire collection is also rumored to be under $50 a piece.

Music & Art on Tuesday: Cecilia the Satellite

Today I discovered new music. At first I could not believe what my ears were hearing and then there it was plain as white bread (that's a thing, right?) "Cecilia and the Satellite" by Andrew MaMahon. A really cool new tune with great album cover art... I want this on a shirt!
