Thursday Threads: Tunics!

My friend Colleen Kitchens has the most wonderful store in Miami called, Stitching Around which was recently featured in American Baby this month! The store is full of beautiful gifts, from towels to ice buckets, kiddie goodies like hats and bloomers. It's one of the best places in town to find just the right gift for someone. They do all their embroidering in house so you only need a few days to make it seem like you took months! Just last week I was meeting with Colleen and the first thing I noticed was her beautiful tunic. "We're carrying them at the store" she casually responded, "Can you have them monogrammed?" I asked her, "Yeah!"... sold! Tunics are $82 and you can even find some prints in mommy and me styles. You just can't go wrong. Check out the store in person if you live in the area, if not visit them online.

Happy Shopping!

Art Talk Tuesday: Monday, Tuesday, Happy Days...

I hope you had an amazing LONG weekend! I actually extended my weekend a little and opted to use a personal day on Friday. I'm so glad I did as it got me ready for our house guest, Goot. Goot is one of Mr. D's frat brothers from UF...and nerdy sidekick. Goot, a.k.a. Lord Bytor is some computer programming evil genius or something. A few years ago Mr. D and I went to visit him at his new house and I was saddened when I saw no art on the walls. I decided that I was going to paint Lord Bytor's dragon, his castle and the Lord himself. The triptych hangs in his Orlando home to this day...and I think it still may be the only art up in the house. Boys.

This is Lord Bytor's dragon. It has to be one of my favorite paintings to date still because it has such a funny story to go with it.

Now I realize that I did not post yesterday so my regular Music Monday went missing. Well, this weekend I downloaded the song, "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. I first heard it when the SMU women's crew (which I was a member of for all of 10 minutes) made their own video of the song and it went viral. The song is one of the poppy songs that you may hear over and over again allllll summer long. Here's the video, hope you enjoy it.
Well, I hope you have a great start to your week...and I hope you will stop by as the week progresses. I'm already thinking about what to wear tomorrow for Wardrobe Wednesday since the week snuck up on me!!

XOXO

Thursday Threads: Rainy Season = Rain Boots!

It's officially here. Miami's rainy season. Today at 8:00am it looked like 7:30pm with sheets of jungle rain falling from the sky. It's suppose to be like this off and on all day...for days...months really. I honestly don't know why anyone would vacation here in the summer, it will rain everyday (not all day). Anyhow, in the spirit of the rain I wanted to highlight some of the rain boots that I am coveting.

First and foremost is the green Hunter Wellie. If the Queen of England wears them, then by golly I want to too! This classic beauty will run you $125 at Nordstroms and if you live in a cold weather climate you can also pair them up with great Hunter boot socks! Totally worth the investment.
Next on my list is the Burberry rain boot. Another classic staple! This beauty is about $225 and you can find it at Neiman Marcus. They're so pretty you might not even take them off after the rain stops!
Finally there are these lovelies! If you are like me, everything in life should be monogrammed! Well, the folks at the Pink Giraffe agree with us. These boots are a steal at $98! You pick the style of monogram you want and they will have them ready to you in about 2 weeks.

Well, Happy Shopping! May your neck of  the woods be a little drier than mine, but if it's not...then I hope today's finds help you stay dry!

XOXO

Art Talk Tuesday: Double Banyon

I love banyon trees, and growing up in Coral Gables, you see them everywhere. In 2008 I had my first art exhibition and painted a banyon tree (which sold on the first night). Shortly after that exhibition I drew a double banyon in my sketch book. The double banyon is very common in the Gables, we see  examples of how two separate trees across the street from each other can grow tall and meet in the middle of the street creating this illusion of an arch, of a double banyon.
I eventually painted the double banyon for my first solo exhibition in 2009, and in 2010 it found a home with a beautiful couple, Mr. and Mrs. H. One day I got a call from Mrs. H who saw the painting on my website and wanted to know if it was still available. She told me how the tree reminded her of her marriage, two big trees coming together in the middle to create something larger than life. I thought it was poetic and dropped off the painting later that week. Mr. and Mrs. H are still working on their home so it had not been hung, but they have promised to take a picture when it finally goes up.
