On the 4th, 5th and 6th Day of Christmas...
I've been living in exile from my house since Wednesday Dec. 22 -- D caught a mega fly (tamiflu and all) and since Baby C is not vaccinated yet...we left. So...yes, this sadly means that our first Christmas with the baby was not spent together. I have been staying at my mom's (which I'm not going to lie---has been fun).
The past few days I have been drawing what we have been wearing -- I got a new travel sketch book, snazzy Sharpie pens and 72 new colored pencils...so I got to drawing.
In case you were wondering...I got everything on my list except for the shoes. The good thing is that my birthday is in 30 days--- so I'll add them to the top of THAT wish list!
Hope you had a great holiday week!

Hope you're having a nice weekend.

Art Basel Vernissage
Last night was the ever famous Art Basel Vernissage (VIP Opening Night). It is a who's who of art, artists, celebs, curators and collectors. I wanted to share a few fun pictures from the evening. The picture above is with my lifelong friend and fabulous artist, Lu Coxhead. Doesn't she look fab in her leopard jacket...I want one!
Here I am with my BFF, Ivon who was my date to my first Vernissage a few years ago. This time around we brought the husbands and left our babies with our moms. :)
There are two of my favorite artists and friends, Carlos Alves and JC Alves. Carlos is an incredible ceramic artist. He did the floors in the South Florida Art Center on Lincoln Road and the "Sandcastle" at the Miami Children's Museum. He has invited me to bring Chechi to his studio to do foot and hand prints.
I love my museum friends! Adrianne and Marie are at Young at Art but both worked with me at the Miami Children's Museum. They are both artists in their own right as well. So fun to see them...especially since they gushed over baby and how great I look. It's nice to hear, "I can't believe you had a baby 3 weeks ago! You look amazing!"
A butler presenting an ass with a diamond coming out of its ass...that's all I have to say about this one...
Here we are...out and social with a 3 week old at her Coco's house. Aren't you proud of us?
Here I am with my favorite jeweler, friend and blogger, Kristin. Notice her fancy press pass...next year I am going to try and get one! I mean...I am blogging about Art Basel.
Dear Donald Judd, I love you. I love your work. I love that they are all basically Untitled.
Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas (other than a scheduled baby) is this painting by Mr. T
So that was Vernissage in a nutshell. I did run into loads of other people...family, friends, museum friends...we even saw Tom Wolfe...we ALWAYS see him at Vernissage. He's hard to miss in his all white suit.

Miami Art Week- Bakehouse Art Complex Party
Monday afternoon, my dear friend Chris (and Fairy Godfather to Chechi) called and invited me to the Bakehouse Party that night. I had no plans to go to any Art Basel events this year because of the baby...but I caved...and once I decided to go to this event, I started looking for tickets to Art Basel's Vernissage (tonight) and Art Miami (last night--but we're going tomorrow).
There were a few artists I really liked. Chris is admiring the robots made by Mike Rivamonte. You can look at his work at www.mrivamonte.com
Another artist I enjoyed was Lynne Libby, who's husband is Father Libby of St. Christopher's on Key Biscayne. She draws her inspiration from living on Key Biscayne. Beautiful work! She's had her studio at the Bakehouse for over 20 years! www.picturetrail.com/lynnelibby
This piece just made me laugh...there's a golden cock on it...how could you not like it?
Gerry Stecca works in clothes pins and makes the most amazing pieces! Here are this bird houses...but you can see a bowl in the lower right hand corner. www.gerrystecca.com
Here is a view down at the crowd from a balcony studio. The Bakehouse use to be home to the Holsom Bakery.
So...that was my first night out for Miami Art Week.

Tot Treasures
So I decided that you might enjoy to see what Little C is wearing. Some days...she does have more than 2 ensembles...depends on the diaper situation.
Here is what she had on yesterday...and what she is wearing today.
Hope you are having a nice Tuesday. I will be reporting on my Art Basel adventures this week later on..so far, I went to the Bakehouse Art Complex opening last night...

At Thanksgiving I am Thankful for Unanswered Prayers
Tomorrow is our first Thanksgiving as a real family. And I am beyond thankful for the birth of our beautiful and healthy baby girl. So to quote Garth Brooks, "Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers..." because if I had ended up with the architect or the bankeror if I had gotten that dream job in Dallas after college or had stayed in New York after grad school... I would not have the beautiful family I have today...and I LOVE my family.
So, I am thankful for...
My beautiful and healthy daughter
My fun and loving husband
My supportive and loving mother
My laid back and informed sister-in-law
All of my friends who have brought us dinner and love
Breastfeeding which has allowed me to drop 28 lbs in 3 weeks
I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family and friends.

Miles if Color
You may remember my friend Melissa who had a sweet baby boy, Miles. Last week I sketched his painting onto the canvas, and tonight I started to add color. Tomorrow I'll add the outline and rework color.
I'm 39 weeks pregnant tomorrow so I really want to finish this up before I see Melissa this weekend...and or the baby comes...which ever comes first.

Flat Stanley? Please...Flat C is Much Better...
You all know Flat Stanley right? Paper doll that people send all around the world and take pictures of...
Well, in my "sophomore spice" group of friends from college, we have a "Flat" version of whichever one of us could not be on a trip.
My friend Claudia (far right) for instance could not be at my wedding or our trip to Arizona 2 years ago and Chicago last year...so we made a "Flat Claudia" and took pictures with her.
Last weekend was my 10 year college reunion at SMU. I was really sad I could not go and be among friends on the Hilltop---but I am in the no fly zone, and frankly Baby C is more important at this point. SO...the girls made a "Flat C"...notice how prego I look...well because I am.
These are my friends L-R, Julie "Cool", Sara, Mary Michael "MM" (who is 20 wks prego), Claudia "Clouds" and me...our friend Lindsay is missing from this picture too, but she was there...hence no "Flat Linds".
What fun traditions do you have with friends?

Rocket Man
On November 1, the space shuttle will be heading into orbit for its final mission. NASA has a contest going, where the public can vote for what song they play to wake up the astronauts on their last morning in space.
Below you will find the link... my vote,
"Good Day Sunshine" by The Beatles is WAY down in votes... but most of the songs are really good options.
Once you cast your vote, you can see how the votes are stacking up.

Have fun with this one!

Miles
Yes, I've been busy...but as I mentioned a bit ago there are some things I need to finish up before Ms. C arrives.
In May, one of my nearest and dearest friends had the sweetest little boy named, Miles.
This weekend I got the canvas out and started on it. Over on the left you will see the color sketch of his painting, and the work that has started on his canvas. I'm going to put paint to canvas this week and have it ready for her this weekend. I'll show you progress as I make it.

Pinky Show - We Love Museums...Do Museums Love Us Back?
I'm in love...with this very funny look into the world of museums.
I was introduced to this video today at work--and I think I've watched it a few times since I got home from work.
If you're not a museum person--- you'll enjoy the cats at least.

My New BFFs
These are my new treasured pens for drawing and water coloring. They are fantastic because they give me that fine line I look for, but they also are waterproof...so they won't bleed.
They come in 3 varieties...the retractable (shown above) and in 2 pen styles. I have a few of each style in both blue and black.
I highly recommend these beauties!

Two More Rooms
I know that I've been slow about sharing the new house--- only having shown you the living room--and a sliver of the nursery. Here is the latest look at the living room-- we've made some changes. You will also see the dinning room and our foyer. I'm loving how our home is coming together!
Today is our 4 year wedding anniversary---and the only thing I asked for was for the crib to be put together--so that room will be unveiled soon.

For the Love of Lilly Exhibit
Today the ladies from the museum's curatorial and some from education department took a field trip to Boyton Beach to visit the Museum of Lifestyle and Fashion History. They just opened an exhibit called, For the Love of Lilly. An historic look into the iconic line of clothes, and those who helped along the way.
Here is a look into some of the treasures that came into the museum on loan from all over, including my friend Sheffield who owns, Back in Style, a savvy online vintage clothes store.
Here is a great quote from Mrs. Pulitzer herself...
And finally here I am...I had to take a seat. Baby C was kickin' up a storm and mama needed to take a break.
If you are in Florida and in the area of Boyton, go take a look. They also have a fun exhibit on Barbie over the years. Lilly will be up through the spring at the Museum of Lifestyle and Fashion History.
