Carry This With You...

"Where ever we go, we take with us everything we know, whether we know it or not. "
- Maya Angelou
As I get another year older, I look forward to adding more things to my trousseau...after all we learn and grow each day.

Birthday Traditions

Are you picking up on the theme this week? It IS birthday week...
So I have had this funny birthday tradition since the tender age of 19...I wear a tiara on my birthday. Not all day...just to my festivities. It just so happened that my 19th birthday was the same weekend as my Gamma Phi Beta Victory Party...so I wore a tiara, white boa and silver dress. Silver was the new black back then...
Anyhow...the tradition continues. This year my birthday is on the same night that the museum is having its first Gala! "Moon Over Miami" is the theme...and I have decided to incorporate an ity bity tiara I have into my 40's black tie look.
...what birthday traditions do you have?

Birthday Wish List

My birthday is this Saturday (YAY!) and as usual I have a short wish list...and a stylish one at that. Here it is...

Tory Burch blue glitter flats...because every girl wants and needs a little sparkle (9.5 if you want to be my fairy Godmother or father)
Blue and Gold earrings...I just find them stunning.
Ray Ban Tort. Glasses...I think these are a nice classic pair.
That's it. I'm not asking for much am I?

Award Season...

A great big PINK hug to Canadian Prep for bestowing this award on me! I am suppose to tell you 7 things about me...and then pass it along to other stylish bloggers...
1. I got a detention in the 3rd grade for drawing in math class...I should've known it would lead me to this day.
2. When buying jewelry I always imagine me wearing it with the same outfit, jeans and a white tank top. I blame Meg Ryan's character in French Kiss for this...because she wore that diamond necklace so beautifully in a white tank top.
3. I go back to work on Monday 7th. I'm not terribly excited about this because I will miss my baby so much...BUT I am looking forward to having adult conversations with people again! I also head back to the world of Junior League, Cultural Educators and the Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae board...my time "off" is coming to an end. Now the real juggling begins...
4. I haven't painted anything since before we moved in August!
5. One of my very BFF's Jessica (from Singleton in the Kitchen) is getting married in September in Napa and I am in the wedding. I have not been a bridesmaid in probably 6 years!! I can't wait!!
6. This is my birthday week...and I hope Mr. Dubonics gets me the one thing I REALLY want...I have a short list, but there is something I really hope he'll get me.
7. It's the year of the "1" and if you take the age you are going to be this year and ADD that number to the last 2 digits of the year you were born the sum will be "11" or "111"... 33+78 = 111 ...try it!
OK--- Here are fab bloggers I pass this award on to...
Singleton in the Kitchen
Summer in Newport
Social Climbers
BonBon Rose Girls
Annechovie
High Heels and Frijoles
xoxo!

Snails on Parade in the City Beautiful

Photos are courtesy of the City of Coral Gables.
I first saw these whimsical and very pink snails during Art Basel last month. I thought they were FANTASTIC! ...now 21 of them are calling my home sweet home of Coral Gables, for about 2 months.
They are sprinkled in all sorts of formations throughout the city...but I am a fan of the "looking close" "kissy kiss face" snail pose...
If you are in town, here are some of the spots you can see them....
- Coral Gables City Hall
- Segovia Circle at Coral Way
- Coral Gables Museum
- Ponce Circle Park
- Coral Gables Library
- Coral Gables Youth Center
- Ponce de Leon Blvd. near Village of Merrick Park
- Alhambra Blvd. near Ponce de Leon Blvd.
Go off and explore and enjoy our friends while you can! Makes for a fun scavenger hunt with family and friends.

Bee Book Project

I'm working on a book project about a Bee. It's for the same people I illustrated the book about clouds for. I am working on the last few drawings this week, so I wanted to share a couple of the line drawings I've finished.

Lucky Kids Magazine

One of my favorite things to do--and one of the places I draw inspiration from is my magazines. Once upon a time I use to get about 9 magazines, now I only get 5...but honestly, I need to renew some of the old subscriptions...and add some new ones.
One of the new ones I will definitely be getting is the upcoming LuckyKids! It launches in "select" markets in March. I hope Miami is one of those markets, if not I know what I want as a St. Patrick's Day gift from my NYC and LA friends.

Beaux Arts Festival Wrap Up

This weekend was the Beaux Arts Festival at the University of Miami. This festival is such a nice way to start the arts festival season in Miami. Sunday, my mom, baby girl and I made our way over to UM and walked around, running into friends and taking in some great art. Here are some pictures from our stroll.
Isn't she the cutest??

These are bracelets made from license plates. I couldn't resist and bought two---a bicentennial Delaware plate and a Michigan plate. I would have gotten Texas and Florida, but they were not as visually attractive as the two I got. The artist were SO nice! They make all sorts of treasures at great prices, take a look at their website, http://www.the3sisters.com/

Ari st Amy Lansburg, made her way here from Michigan. She makes beautiful pieces with drift wood from Lake Superior and really uses her wit and imagination. A delightful and stylish woman ( she was wearing a pair of license plate bracelets...that's where I first noticed them)... my mom fell in love with these church fans. Here's her website for more information http://www.amylansburg.com/

A fellow leaguer, Holli Kingsbury along with Macy de la Guardia make these gorgeous pillows and throws. This octopus was my favorite yesterday at the show. Holli's creations give your couch, bed, chair, office...whatever, a certain je ne sais quoi! To look at all the Thred creations visit, http://www.thredpillows.com/

This outlaw of a squirrel caught my eye right away...and he sold while I was talking to the artist...who unfortunately did not have cards on him.

I couldn't get to this artist to talk t o him...but fell in love with this piece called, "Hell on Wheels".
All in all it was great! Kudos to all the women on the Beaux Arts Committee for their hard work putting together another wonderful festival!
If you are in Miami in January, make sure to go to the Beaux Arts Festival.

Forgive me Father for I Have Sinned...

Yes...it is what you think it is.
My mom's birthday is on Monday 17th, and she thought these were great looking--so I bought her a pair.
However, since I am in love with my jeggings, I caved and bought a pair for myself too.

...feel free to stop being my friend at anytime (after they arrive in the mail).
