Pictures Picked

We fought 5pm traffic to make it down to Pinecrest to our photographer's studio and pick our maternity pictures that will go in our baby book for C. First I have to say again how amazing Sheri is. She's so talented, fun and easy to work with.
We selected a fair number but really keep the amount low since we know that once C comes, we'll fill the rest of the pages with pictures of her newborn, 6 month and 1 year session. I can't even begin to tell you how odd and exciting it is to know that C is going to be here in 6 weeks!
This is one of my favorite pictures...Maggie's so pretty isn't she? Love my baby girl.
Hope you are having a good week!

Letter of the Day: H is for Hurricane

Appropriately so! We have Tropical Storm Nicole heading our way. One day there isn't much happening in the Atlantic or Caribbean and the next, there's a storm barreling straight for you.
It's also appropriate because turns out I am taking down my paintings at Books and Books today and the day I put them up there was a monsoon outside. The weather follows these around I tell you.

It was a lovely run at Books and Books in Coral Gables. The staff as always were great, and we shall see if they liked it all enough to ask me back for next year.

In the meantime, if you are in Miami---get those wellies out and stay dry! If you are not, enjoy the Weather Channel's coverage of Tropical Storm Nicole.

Last Week at Books and Books

It's the last week of my exhibition at Books and Books in Coral Gables. The month really went by so quickly I can't believe it.

I'm not sure when I will be taking the paintings down, it will more than likely be Wednesday or Thursday afternoon...so if you are in Miami and have not had a chance to see them, I hope you will.

Thank you everyone who went to see it, and those who admired via the internet, thank you for your support as well!

Hope you had a nice weekend.

Go Ponies Beat TCU!

When I was a freshman at SMU we wore black pants and oxford shirts with pearls to football games...Playboy ranked us #3 among party schools in the country...about 60% of all students were in the Greek system...and we played pathetic (but super fun) football at the Cotton Bowl.

Today, the students look like they've walked off the pages of Vogue...the parties are still huge, the Greek system still dominates, but our football is strong and we play on campus at Ford Stadium, which means there is great tailgating before the games on "The Boulevard"... I LOVED my 4 years at SMU...but am envious of students today (mostly because of the football situation).

Anyhow, there is this amazing website called, Hilltop Glossy which chronicles the fashionable students at SMU today.
So, as SMU plays for the Iron Skillet against TCU tonight in Ford Stadium tonight, I invite you to take a look and cheer on my PONIES!!!!

GO RED
GO BLUE
GO MUSTANGS
S-M-U!

...noe if you want to see another great blog...you should visit The Florida Room... our slide show of pro shots is up!

Day Job

So as most of you know I have a day job...but its more than a day job, I really and truly love what I do. I've been working in museums for about 12 years now, and I have been fortunate enough to have worked in Museums of Art, Science, Children's and most recently History .

Today I trekked 1.5 hours north to West Palm Beach to speak on a panel on emerging leaders I put together. There were five of us on the panel and of the five three of us went to graduate school together in New York at Bank Street College.

I am exhausted from the 3 hour round trip trip and the 1.5 hour panel conversation...

Today I am also officially 33 weeks pregnant...7 weeks to go!!

Tomorrow I am going to finish the final paintings for the Cloud Book I have been working on for a few months. I'm submitting it on Friday, and I'm really excited because they have loved it thus far.

Hope you're having a good week.

Moon Pie

Happy Tuesday.

Before I forget I wanted to tell you all about a FAB give away over on my friend's blog, Summer in Newport. She's giving away one of her beautiful handmade necklaces, this one is a very fall appropriate chocolate pearl with gold wire necklace.
Anyhow-- this is Moon Pie. My sorority sisters in particular are fans of this one...because the crescent moon is one of the Gamma Phi Beta symbols.
Hope you all had a fine Tuesday. I went to the doctor today, and he says she's about 5 pounds now...she's going to probably be "over 8 pounds" he said. Hoorah!!

A is for Alligator

Happy Monday!
What better way to start the work week than with a smiling gator?
This smiling gator is up at Books and Books in Coral Gables with 17 other works. It's been a slow but fast month...the 18 pieces will come down next week, so if you are in Miami and have not had a chance to see it, time is running low.
Anyhow---I hope you had a nice weekend. I did a lot of celebrating and organizing. This week is going to be very busy. I am finishing up the final watercolors for the book, and have been commissioned for another one---so I also have to submit my proposal for the new book by Friday. So I'll be a busy busy girl.
On top of all of that, we are still working on the house with the baby due in 7 weeks. As Dorie the fish in Finding Nemo says..."just keep swimming, just keep swimming"

S is for Stiltsville

Stiltsville out on Biscayne Bay is one of Miami's quirkiest treasures. No one can really agree when the first house was built in the shallows of Biscayne Bay...some say 1922 others say it was in the early 1930's. There are seven houses left today. I've been to Stiltsville, but have never been IN a house. D has (jealous) and says it was great. Every hurricane season I pray nothing happens to the houses since they can't be rebuilt.
For the show, it was easy to make S Stiltsville. It's so great. If you are ever in Miami, look on the HistoryMiami
website to see if they are holding one of their fantastic boat tours of the area.

There's No Place Like Home

I decided to take the weekend off and focus on the house a bit, relaxing and I also attended a baby shower for lil' ole me.
...last night I was inspired and posted three pictures of the new house on our family blog, The Florida Room .
There is so much yet to be done at home...but these are spaces I felt comfortable sharing...so take a look and let me know what you think.

Another Slice of Pie

Today's piece from "Slice of Miami Pie" is this gem.
This is another one that REALLY makes people stumble.
Can you figure it out?
...in other news...the new house is coming along slowly but surely. There is still painting and organizing to be done. The nursery is a LONG way off...and the only way we will get it going is by selling our old bedroom set, which is in there right now. SO...if you know anyone in Miami looking to buy a BEAUTIFUL mission style bedroom set (Queen bed, Armoire, 7 Drawer Dresser with Mirror, 2 2-drawer night stands and 2 table lamps) for $500...let me know!!!

L is for Lighthouse

L is for Lighthouse in my Miami Alphabet. Is it wrong to admit, I kind of don't want any of the letters to sell because I'd love to finish the alphabet? I mean...I can always reproduce...so if a letter finds a home then it's not the worst thing that could happen at all.
The lighthouse depicted in the painting is the Cape Florida at Bill Baggs State Park (pictured to the left). I actually used this photograph as my inspiration. I love this icon...the park sits on the island of Key Biscayne. My mom actually lived on the island up until 4 months ago or so, she's now a land lover on the mainland.
Anyhow, I hope you like L is for Lighthouse. It's one of my favorites.

Pie of the Day

Can you guess what this one is?
It's one of my favorites, the combination of colors ...the pie itself is one of my favorites too.
I first tested this idea on a bag (which is still available). Took one person about two minutes to figure it out. I knew I had a good one at that point.
Today, the Friday night opening was covered by the Gables Homepage. Check it out here. There's even a picture of lil' ole me on the blog.

Slice of Miami Pie at Books and Books...Now Open!

It has been a long summer leading to this night. Friday morning, D and I went over to Books and Books in Coral Gables and hung 18 new paintings. Most of them you have seen previews of, but some I kept a secret.
To hang the show we first laid everything out on the floor to figure out spacing and color schemes. Once they were up, I took my touch up marker and made sure everything looked just right for the opening later that night.

Two long halls are now covered in my work. One side is the Pie Series and the other is the Miami Alphabet. That's how this show got its name, Slice of Miami Pie.

Right from 7pm to 10pm a steady stream of gallery walk goers, family and friends came to see and support. One of the very nice parts of it all is that I sold 2 pieces in the first night! I hope a few more find a nice home.
As I just moved and am dealing with "Boxtown" I am going to slowly be posting details of the paintings over the coming weeks. The paintings will all be up until the end of the month, so if you are in Miami and did now get to see the pieces on Friday night, you can stop by and see then at any time!
...by the way...yesterday the talented Sheri Mazariegos took our prego pics and she has already posted a preview on her blog! Check it out here.

Show Tomorrow Night

The show opens tomorrow night at Books and Books in Coral Gables. I'm beat...and cannot wait to hear what people say about the new pieces. I'll have pictures up from opening night after tomorrow night.

Thank you all for all your input and support over the months!

Pies and Letters

It's been a very busy week. Since I last checked-in...we've moved, started settling and I've continued to paint. We have not had internet until today...that is why I've been M.I.A.

The show opens at Books and Books on Friday night and I will have 18 pieces on display until the end of the month. Here are a couple of new pieces that I started while I was on internet vacation.

Hope you have been well!
