The Florida Room

You all know how much I love sharing my latest drawings, random inspiration and other tid bits...
However, most of you also know that yours truly is sitting pretty at 21 weeks prego...which means that in 19 weeks our bundle of joy will be joining us...and there will be stories to share that aren't very...art driven, and more crawling, first smile driven...I think that those stories deserve a place of their own to share...so yesterday I started, The Florida Room www.flaroom.blogspot.com a place where we will share the funnies and photos from our little family.
I will obviously continue writing here on cSd Art...so consider The Florida Room a small side project. Follow along if you would like...or just keep it on this channel...
I Appreciate all of you and your thoughts on a regular basis!!

First Time in a While...

It's been a while since I did one of these.
Here is my ensemble from Friday. I don't think I made my round parts BIG enough...maybe I'll make the next one a profile.

Anyhow--- haven't done much but prep house for our first open house today and watch soccer matches (so sad about US loss). The sign is up on our front lawn...and everything is as it should be...now to find buyers/renters.

I'm really looking forward to the next step. I'm looking forward to putting together a house for us and baby...I'm looking forward to getting her nursery together. I'm ready!

Hope you've had a nice weekend.

Summer Reading

There is this gentleman who works with the museum every now and then. He's a voracious reader and the first thing he will ask you is, "What are you reading?"...a few months ago in a meeting he went around the table asking this...
My answer was, "Your Pregnancy Week by Week, I'm Pregnant and What to Expect When You're Expecting" ...which is true... I am reading those books and will from now through November.
However, if he were to ask me today...I'd say "Eat, Pray, Love" ...and if he had asked me last week I would have said "The Short Life of Bree Tanner". Being that I will be having the baby in November, I am going to try my best to read as much as I can this summer...

What are you reading?

2 Great Things in One Day!

What a crazy day in sports! First...the US takes out Algeria and tops Group C to move onto the next round...all thanks to my boyfriend Landon Donovan.

THEN...the longest tennis match in all tennis history! The match isn't even over ...they are finishing it tomorrow because they ran out of light!

...those weren't the only good things though. My cravings for red meat took us to a really yummy new place. Evos. All their beef is natural grass fed, the fries are air baked and the milkshakes are organic. I will say...the buger was really good and felt light...no guilt after eating it. The fries...meh, I'll pass on those next time and get the fruit cup instead. There is another cool thing about Evos...they have this ketchup bar...mesquite ketchup, garlic ketchup and spicy ketchup...very good.

Yes, this does mean that I had a burger two days in a row...but c'mon...I'm 20 weeks pregnant...well into month 5...and the books say I need to eat iron.

Shake Shack hits Miami Beach

Most of you know that I LOVE burgers. My last meal would be a burger with fries and either a diet coke or a Shiner Bock...which takes us to The Shake Shack...
Last summer I had my first Shake Shack experience while in NYC. It was perfect...a perfectly sized burger with crinkle fried (salted just right) and a to die for vanilla milkshake.
Today, I went out to Miami Beach for lunch with my friend Myrna...we were going to go to Epicure for our favorite tuna salad on wheat... but then I remembered...
The Shake Shack JUST had its soft opening last week to rave reviews and today was the grand opening! Bazinga...there we went. Oh...how lovely it was...the single cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles...ketchup and mustard... small fries with a side of ketchup and mustard and a LARGE lemonade (it is after all 92 degrees and Baby C is diggin' the lemonade these days). It was perfect...perfect..perfect. $10 later... I was a happy as a clam. I did not get a shake, simply because I get full easily these days and knew I would not have room...but next time, I'll skip the lemonade and get one.
So...all you Miami kids, I highly recommend you get to the Shake Shack...hopefully with enough traffic, they'll move off the Beach and open one on the mainland.
By the way... I think this is what my baby will look like at the Shake Shack one day...

Week 18 (so 2 weeks ago)

I'm a slacker...I didn't take a week 19 picture and now I'm 20 weeks. However, I thought that I'd show you all my progress. As you can see I am carrying a giant...I mean...I was not tiny to start with, but I'm big! I'm afraid of what I will look like 10 weeks from now...and 10 after that...oh dear!

In the meantime I do what I can to stay active, work on projects outside of museum work and dress as cute as I can in the smoldering heat of Miami! ...and I mean smoldering, it's only June and the highs have been in the mid 90's...I do NOT want to know what the temps will be in August...and I REALLY don't want to deal with a hurricane (and therefore no power...no a/c...no hot water...etc etc etc).

Hope you had a nice Monday!

Oh...just in case you didn't catch that, this picture is from 2 weeks ago. I was at the Biltmore Hotel with sorority friends playing Petanque.

Tag!

A tag post has made it over my way from my friend and blogger, Summer in Newport . I do enjoy readings these as its fun to learn more about bloggers...

So here we go!

Favorite Color: Blue (pink as a little girl...I also love yellow, orange and pink together as well as pink with green)

Favorite Brand/ Designer: J.Crew, Tory Burch and Kate Spade.

Favorite Restaurant: OK...Houston's, PJ Clarke's in NYC and Hole in the Wall in Miami for burgers, Eatzi's in Dallas for salads and sandwhiches, Lime for Mexican, Cabana las Lilas in Buenos Aires for steaks, Salt Lick in Austin for BBQ.

Hobbies: Painting, drawing, photography, shopping, eating, traveling and blogging :)

Favorite thing about yourself:

My ability to stay in touch with so many friends from different parts of my life. I not only stay in touch, but have real meaningful relationships with these people. I use to rely on letters for this, then it morphed into emails and calls...facebook helps along the way...but I do love my annual trips to see pockets of friends almost every year.

What does your room look like? (color scheme, theme, etc.): It's a pretty moss color with white crown molding and a sand rug. Wood furniture and a yellow chinoisery (sp) bed spread with blue shams. ...a stack of books, dog bone and shoes tossed around here and there.

If you could have dinner with 2 people (dead or alive) who would they be? :

1. My Nono, I never met my maternal grandfather and I always hear such amazing stories about what a fun character he was, I'd love to experience that.

2. Jesus... I mean aren't you curious to hear what really went down?

What's your next "big splurge"? :

Well...something for Baby Girl...more than likely moving into a house better suited for her.

What's your favorite joke, quote or saying?:

Something I came up with in college... "Be a bitch and know it, love your bitchdom"

Anything else you would like us to know about you (random fact)?!:

My guilty pleasure is sitting on the couch watching hours of television while reading magazines with a cocktail in hand. ...and when I say hours...I mean HOURS!

Final Sketches for Q & other excitement...

Thank you all for your feedback yesterday!
Here are the final two sketches for Ms. Q based on mommy's request.
I'm not sure which one I like best...
Which do you like?
In other exciting news...guess who made herself physically present starting last night? Baby C! I started feeling the "flutters" last night...feeling a little something now! YAY!

Q is for Quinn

There is nothing like being in the Junior League. You meet so many wonderful woman who evnetually become your friends and support system.

Last night after a simple question, one of my JLM friends, Austin offered me her crib mattress! So thoughtful and generous of her...I told her I would happily take it off her hands, IF she would let me paint a small something for her daughter's room.

Here are preliminary sketches for Ms. Q's painting. The green "Q" with half and half purple is a color test...not really how it will look. I think I like the lavender Q on light green...I also think I like the monogram more...
Mama Austin will decide when she sees it and will let me know.

Which do you like more?

Must Read FIne Print...

Yeah, my pretty white bumper is for cradles....UGH...
Fortunately I found this pretty bumper made by the same company...did a swap-a-roo on the registry...and there you go.
It will look pretty with yellow gingham sheets I think.

Just Because She's a Girl...

Yesterday I registered for about 90% of the things we need for Cas (have I mentioned how amazing it is to call her by her name?).
Only a few things are missing...
1. Her crib (PB Kids)
2. Our glider (PB Kids?)
3. Crib sheets (Tadpoles)
4. Baby Einstein Activity Center

Anyhow--- when all is said and done, this is what her crib will look like.

What do you think?

Just because she's a girl doesn't mean she has to have a pink on pink room. So far we are building her a yellow, blue, red and green room. I think it is going to look really amazing when it all comes together.

I am loving her bumper and dust ruffle -- I was immediately drawn to them when I saw them. I then came home did some research and found the yellow gingham I was looking for.

As her room comes together I can really start to think about what her monogram will look like. I know I want to make it really big and special.
I am still trying to decide whether I will do a monogram or her initials...

CAS

What do you think?

It's all really feeling much more real---and soon I will be able to feel her moving around inside. I cannot wait for that!!

Hope you have a great Sunday!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

Buenos Dias! Fun Fact: I love sports.
Yesterday as most of you may know, the World Cup began in South Africa...an exciting day with my motherland of France playing (and ending in a draw with Uruguay).
Today there are three games (one about to end...Greece v Korea) and two of my favorite teams are playing...!
ARGENTINA (VAMOS ARGENTINA!) v Nigeria and then the Queen plays the President... England v USA!!!
I hope Landon and the boys do well today and send the Brits into the L column...
I hope we hear a lot of GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLs coming from the Univision commentator (no other way to watch than on Univision).
...oh, yeah we are also registering for Cas today...minor details during a crazy World Cup month right?

Happy Friday---Give Away Announcement

Happy Friday!! What a great week this has been for my little crew. It's amazing to know that we have a DAUGHTER on the way...it's just wonderful to be able to be able to refer to the baby as...SHE!

So, the day before yesterday I ran a little give away. I said whoever guessed the correct sex of the baby would be eligible to win one of my "what I wore today" watercolors...but of YOU.

Here are the readers who guessed correctly,
A.
A.B.
Mary Michael
Pam
Kati
Priscilla
Annechovie

As you can see I took the names, wrote them down, cut them into strips, folded the strips into equal quarters, put them in a bowl, shook the bowl, and pulled out the winner.

Our guess what Baby Sles is winner was Annechovie.

Email me the picture you would like me to use with details of what you are wearing...along with your mailing address.

Thanks again everyone for submitting their guess. There were only a couple who guessed boy...sorry. I hope it's a boy next time....but for now, thank heaven for little girls!

24 Hours to Go...Guess and Win!

When I first found out I was pregnant, the first few things that I thought about were...
I wonder how far along I am...
I wonder what I am having...
I wonder who the baby will look like...
I wonder if the baby knows it will be financing my retirement...

I'm kidding on the last one...a little.
Anyhow---the first question was answered as soon as I went to see the doctor the first time.
Now the time has come for the second question to be answered. Should Baby S cooperate, I should know what we are having sometime between the 3:00 and 4:00 o'clock hour TOMORROW! I am thrilled...I'd love a boy, but I think it's a girl. However, at the end of the day it really doesn't matter what it is, all I care about is for the baby to be healthy!

Needless to say you know what I will be blogging about tomorrow. It's been lots of fun hearing everyones thoughts on what I am having based on...what think it is, how I am carrying, what the Chinese calendar says...etc...etc...etc.

Today is your last chance to let me know what you think it is...
For everyone who guesses the right sex, I'll enter your name into a giveaway for a "What are You Wearing Today" watercolor painting.

Great Rooms!

Hello Monday! It's a hot rainy mess here in Miami...so it was the perfect night to read blogs. Tonight while reading the blogs I follow, I enjoyed one in particular. Simplified Bee pointed me in the direction of this amazing site, Project Nursery. I immediately signed up after seeing this room with the green stripe ceiling.
OK...I love this...but I know that...
1. My mom will hate it
2. Those must be SO HARD to do!

What I absolutely love is...remember all those colors I want to use in our nursery? Well here they are in this room and they look amazing together! I think I officially want the glider to be in blue.

But there were two other space I adored on Project Nursery...this blue/chalkboard wall here. You know how I feel about chalkboard walls...LOVE THEM! Really want one in the nursery.

Then there was this great Ikea furnished playroom. I always have said that kids furniture should be purchased at Ikea...and here is something put together that looks fun and amazing.

I like the idea of giving kids spaces that are their own and elegant but playful. Just because it is a kids space, doesn't mean it has to be a disjointed mess.

Anyhow--- 3 days until we find out the sex of the

baby! I'm taking bets...feel free to leave yours on here.

Hope you had a great weekend!!

I Welcome You Weekend!

I normally don't post pictures of myself...but I do kind of love this picture as it basically sums up how I felt last weekend...fabulous!
Look at me all prego fat and happy in a cabana at the glorious Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.

Well, the weekend is upon us yet again...and though I will not be spending it by the largest hotel swimming pool in the US...it's a weekend.

I hope you all have had a nice week. Thanks for your help on the series...

I'm going with the pies!

Catch you next week (unless I am motivated enough to post something this weekend).

Something Else Baking in the Oven

I hope you had as wonderful a weekend as we did in Miami! We spent the weekend poolside at the Biltmore in a cabana with family. Baby Sles really liked the water...or so I would like to think. Can't feel the little one yet...ANYHOOOO...
Two years ago when I had my first show, I painted, Key Lime Pie...a very popular (and still available) little painting.
Last year I decided to add to the pie collection and I painted, Pumpkin and Cherry Pie...
I also added Moon Pie and Pecan Pie to the collection (but on bags and not canvas)... (all still available).
Long story short...what if for the September show I did Pies, instead of the alphabet. I asked on Facebook and Twitter for some ideas...and I combined them with some I had sketches for already... here is the whole collection...
Let me know what you think...and let me know if you can figure them out.
Always appreciate your thoughts!!!
